Downtown Austin Family Session at Lady Bird Lake
When Lexi asked me to shoot a downtown Austin family session, she explained that she wanted it to feel relaxed, with lots of movement. She and her husband, Tyler, share a two-year-old daughter and a newborn son, so their lives are always on the go! They’re also recent Austin transplants loving the city as their new home base. They wanted their session to commemorate their time living here with their littles, so we chose Seaholm Power Plant and Lady Bird Lake in the heart of downtown as our shooting locations. It was such a special afternoon!
Downtown Austin Family Session
Seaholm Power Plant was the perfect starting location for this downtown Austin family session. The historic, retro-chic building is one of Austin’s most iconic pieces of architecture, so the Krofts will always be able to look back at these photos and remember their time living here. The nearby pedestrian bridge connecting the power plant with Lady Bird Lake was also a fantastic shooting location, with panoramic views of the lake and Austin skyline. It was an all-encompassing combination of backdrops with plenty of opportunities for unique family portraits—a photographer’s dream!
After strolling across the bridge, the family relaxed in the beautiful lakeside park. As Tyler and Lexi snuggled their newborn, their two-year-old enjoyed exploring and picking dandelions. After blowing on one and making a wish, she gave her little brother the sweetest hug. It was one of my favorite moments from the session by far! Meanwhile, the backdrop of lush foliage was stunning, especially when the sun started to dip lower in the sky. The golden light filled the air with magic as we snapped a few last portraits on a nearby walking path.
