Kate and Joey contacted me not long before their wedding at the UMLAUF Sculpture Garden and were ecstatic when they learned I was free. Previously, they had booked a friend to shoot their intimate ceremony, but the plans fell through at the last minute. Miraculously, they found me via Google, and our ethos for capturing their special day lined up perfectly. They chose my three-hour elopement package, which I recommend for covering your entire event if you’re doing a ceremony followed by portraits. This window can also include getting-ready time!
I love this couple’s story. They met at their Dallas high school many moons ago and dated for a while. Then, in their twenties, they took off in different directions and explored opposite coasts. It wasn’t until they both landed back in Texas in their thirties that they rekindled their relationship, and the stars aligned for their love to take off!
Kate and Joey’s wedding day was relaxed and easygoing. They both wanted to prioritize candid photos, with plenty of time for couple’s portraits. After their sunny outdoor ceremony, I whisked them into the gardens while their guests ate snacks and sipped champagne. We made a loop around the grounds for photos that felt as candid as possible, with some slight direction when necessary. I guided them into different locations and asked them to stop and just be together in each one. Often, they took it from there!
The couple also embraced a DIY approach to enhance the day’s laidback ethos. Kate’s mom made her bouquet, and the couple provided a snack spread from Central Market. I’ve seen other couples do this at the UMLAUF, and I think it’s a great idea!
Moreover, the couple planned to keep the celebration going all weekend. They planned a small gathering for that evening at their favorite local brewery, then a bigger party with all their friends and family the following night. However, coverage of their intimate ceremony at the UMLAUF was their priority. I’m glad I was available that day, as I could provide them with three hours of coverage—plus some black and white Polaroids thrown in, which they loved! You can add film to any of my packages, so don’t hesitate to ask.
I love shooting elopements and micro weddings at the UMLAUF Sculpture Garden! It’s a serene park space with intricate statues scattered around the grounds, perfect for the artsy couple who wants to approach their wedding day with intention. Each statue is different and holds a unique story, much like every couple I capture! The grounds also host temporary installations by rotating artists each season, so there’s always something new.
The museum’s main hall featured a beautiful Hanging Tree installation on Kate and Joey’s wedding day. I always want to check with the artist and staff before shooting around any installations, so I asked permission to snap a few portraits of Kate and Joey there. Thankfully, they said yes, and it made the most stunning backdrop for those photos!
I’m so glad Kate and Joey asked me to document their wedding at the UMLAUF Sculpture Garden, even with only a few weeks to go. It never hurts to reach out, so please don’t hesitate even if your elopement or wedding is soon! I was also thrilled to have the opportunity to shoot at the UMLAUF again. This location is perfect for portraits of all kinds, and I would love to capture you there as a couple or as a family.
