At-Home Engagement Session in Austin

The lovely Open Road Events out of Marfa, Texas referred Maggie and Kevin to me. They knew the couple wanted down-to-earth, organic imagery that didn’t feel overly styled for their wedding day. Maggie and Kevin connected with my work, and we began planning their engagement session in Austin!

Initially, the couple felt unsure about booking an engagement session. Being introverted, they were hesitant to display their love for the camera. However, the more they thought about it, the more they realized what a treasure it would be to have imagery documenting this special chapter in their lives. I felt honored by their trust in me to capture the session exactly as they envisioned.

Engagement Session in Austin

Maggie and Kevin’s engagement session was a split-location session, which I loved! We began at the bar where they met, The Wheel in East Austin, before finishing the session at their home. My favorite engagement sessions are in locations with a personal connection to the couple. They feel comfortable so much faster in a space they love, which produces even better images!

I loved Maggie and Kevin’s engagement session outfits because they were comfortable yet sexy and fun. They each chose two outfits, one that was colorful and dressier for the shots at The Wheel and one that was more subdued in tone and casual for the at-home shots. I was obsessed with Maggie’s vibrant orange-red dress! 

Wearing their casual outfits for the at-home portion of the shoot worked perfectly for dancing in their living room and playing with their pets in the backyard. I also loved that they played their favorite music and poured drinks, which made the session feel true to them. Helping a couple get to their happy place during their session is my goal! When in front of the camera, you should feel truly yourselves—never like you’re posing or living someone else’s love story.

I had a blast shooting Maggie and Kevin’s engagement session in Austin and can’t WAIT for their Marfa wedding! They’re hosting a welcome dinner the night before, and I’m so excited to walk around town and capture them in their favorite place (pro tip: if you’re looking for those extra laid-back, casual shots, book a welcome dinner—there won’t be as much relaxed time on the big day).
