A Candid At-Home Family Session in Austin

Shooting this at-home family session in Austin featuring my friend Lindsey and her adorable family was a blast! Lindsey is a talented fellow wedding photographer, and we’ve known each other for years. We also happened to have our kiddos a few months apart! So, it was a no-brainer when we had the idea to swap lifestyle sessions. The timing of Lindsey’s session happened to land perfectly to commemorate her and her husband’s first kiddo turning two and their second kiddo on the way!

At-Home Family Session in Austin 

A top priority for Lindsey and I was keeping each session real and allowing our toddlers to lead the way. So, we began her session with playtime in her daughter Marigold’s room. We let her tumble around with her toys and explore her mouse dollhouse (how cute is this?!). Then, we ventured outside so the family could do all their favorite backyard activities. Time on the swing and popsicles were a highlight!

Lindsey is in her second trimester with the cutest baby bump. So, it was a beautiful time to capture her second foray into motherhood alongside her bond with Marigold. The timing also coincided with Marigold’s second birthday and her hilarious personality starting to emerge! All the stars aligned for a family session that I know Lindsey and her husband will always cherish. 

Documenting Your Growing Family

With every kiddo added to your family, the dynamic inevitably changes. That’s why I encourage my clients to continue prioritizing these sessions, even (and especially!) in times of transition. The sweet time with your first kiddo before welcoming the second is tender and meaningful. Documenting it all is so important!

Age two involves SO much personality, too. Photographing kiddos in their environment at this age is my favorite because they have so many interests and love showing off their favorite toys. It’s just a great adventure with them, and I take their lead, letting them direct what they want to do. I don’t force anything that’s out of their norm, which helps them feel at ease and allows their sweet little personalities to shine. Is your crew due for some new photos?
