Farmhouse Family Session in Austin

I had a blast shooting this family session in Austin with Nikohle, Tracy, and their sweet baby boy, Rhodes! Nikohle and Tracy booked me for their wedding and initially booked an engagement session. However, after Rhodes arrived, they asked if it would be okay to do a family session instead. I love shooting family sessions and gladly said, “HECK YES!” I’m thrilled to share these highlights from their in-home session in anticipation of their upcoming wedding day.

Family Session in Austin

I drove from Austin to the farmlands outside Houston for my session with Nikohle, Tracy, and Rhodes. They welcomed me into their amazing little farmhouse, and it was the ideal setting for an at-home family session! Nikohle and Tracy had the house moved to the countryside from the Heights district of Houston. Although it was still under reconstruction, there were plenty of finished areas for taking portraits. I immediately fell in love with their vintage-inspired decorating style—their aesthetic reminds me of mine!

Nikohle and Tracy are incredibly laid-back and resonated with my documentary-style process. For their session, we simply went with the flow of a typical day for their family! We began inside Rhodes’ adorable nursery, then gradually transitioned to the living room and into their backyard. Once we were outside, their two hounds joined in the fun! Meanwhile, I hung back and captured the organic interactions between Nikohle, Tracy, Rhodes, and the two pups.

Eventually, Nikohle went inside to change Rhodes, and I captured that moment between them. To me, a family session is about documenting the authentic, day-to-day moments, even the mundane ones! One day, looking back on life with young kiddos, you’ll feel so glad you preserved every moment in print. Once Nikohle changed Rhodes, she rejoined Tracy outside. Then, we capped off the session with some portraits featuring Tracy’s incredible vintage motorcycle!
