Natural Light Studio Family Session for Andie’s First Birthday

Erica and Mark booked me previously to photograph their daughter Andie’s newborn photos. We captured them candidly at home, and I loved that they contacted me again a year later to capture her one-year photos. We planned a natural light studio family session spotlighting Andie’s little personality and all her favorite toys. I can’t wait to continue photographing this lovely family through the years!

Natural Light Studio Family Session

When Erica and Mark inquired with me this year, they explained they wanted professional photos to commemorate Andie’s first birthday. They wanted the session to include a mix of posed portraits and candids with their daughter, plus a cake smash! They also wanted to incorporate some of her favorite stuffed animals, books, and toys at this age. 

For the location, we debated between a natural light studio and their home. Ultimately, we settled on the studio. The setting made more sense to me for the photos Erica and Mark envisioned. I also think it’s great for family photos to have a mix of backdrops, something I emphasize in my family subscription packages!

The studio they chose is the same one I use for my son’s milestone photos because there’s so much room for him to roam. The space is also flooded with natural light! However, I think I mostly enjoy using the studio because it directs all the focus to the person in front of the camera. The simple backdrops keep the focus on your kiddo and their personality, which is perfect for a one-year milestone session like this one. 

I had so much fun shooting this natural light studio family session with Erica, Mark, and Andie! I especially love how Andie’s personality came through as she cuddled her favorite stuffed animals and enjoyed her smash cake toward the end of our session.
