At-Home Lifestyle Session in Austin, Texas with Film

One of my favorite parts of being an Austin family photographer is connecting with new families through past clients. The Romero family found me after a friend shared my work on Instagram, and we later realized I’ve photographed several of their friends’ families over the years. They booked a one-hour lifestyle session in Austin, photographed on both film and digital at their home. Since it was their first professional shoot after welcoming their son, Clark, a year ago, it felt like the perfect opportunity to celebrate him! It was also a chance to highlight the beautiful renovations they’ve made to their space.

The Romeros live in a beautiful 1920s bungalow in East Austin that they recently renovated from the ground up. Their taste is incredible, and it was such a joy to photograph them in a space that truly reflects their personalities and unique style. Home—no matter how it looks—is my favorite place to photograph families! Messy or pristine, DIY’d or professionally designed, it doesn’t matter as long as you feel comfortable. I want you to feel free to be yourselves in front of the camera and even forget that I’m there.

Mom and Dad sipped coffee while Clark played with his favorite books and toys—just like any other morning. My favorite moment came when the Romeros asked to play their favorite Bowie album (um, heck yes!). As they danced with Clark in the kitchen, I was reminded why I love capturing these quiet, joy-filled family moments.

The Romeros love film photography, so we added a roll to their session. They wanted to invest in images that truly resonated with them, and I’m so honored they chose me! When it comes to creating photographs that become family heirlooms, there’s really nothing like film. Its intentionality, warmth, and subtle movement make you want to return to the images again and again.
