Emmy and Alec’s meet-cute was classic: they locked eyes at a bar and started talking like they’d known each other for years. Alec had to leave after a while—only to return moments later to ask for Emmy’s number (um, can I have the movie rights?). Their Southwest School of Art wedding was the perfect culmination of the first chapter of their love story. Brimming with colorful florals and the warmth of genuine connection, the day was serene, joyful, and a celebration of every kind of love. I’m so honored to have captured it.

Emmy and Alec’s love for their families was at the heart of their wedding-day vision. The weekend began with a welcome dinner at the bride’s aunt and uncle’s beautifully designed home in Alamo Heights. From the custom menus on the tables to the See’s Candies gifted to each guest, every detail was thoughtfully intentional.
The following morning, Emmy got ready in her mom’s bedroom, surrounded by photos from her childhood. Her dad passed away in 2011, so she and Alec chose to honor him by having Alec and his groomsmen wear ties from his collection. I loved how intentionally Emmy found ways to honor both of her parents, even designing the wedding-day timeline to allow for an unhurried morning at her mom’s house before traveling twenty minutes to the Southwest School of Art.
These are the moments I prioritize as a wedding photographer. While detail shots and posed portraits certainly have their place, the real magic lives in the in-between moments—like the quiet walk from your mom’s front porch to the car waiting to whisk you away to say “I do.”

Before their ceremony, Emmy and Alec shared a quiet moment in the venue’s courtyard. They admired each other in their wedding finery, then settled onto a shaded bench to exchange private vows. We took all of their portraits beforehand to ensure the evening felt as laid-back as possible—and that they wouldn’t miss any delicious happy hour snacks. Hand in hand, they strolled through the grounds and galleries, admiring the art as I captured them on 35mm film, digital, and Polaroid.
Mindful not to lose sight of each other amid the colorful whirlwind of their wedding day, the couple enjoyed a private pause in the venue’s getting-ready room after the ceremony. They sipped custom cocktails while I captured candid shots of them basking in their newlywed glow. I love photographing these post-ceremony moments—the giddiness and pure emotion are simply unmatched!
After finishing their drinks, the couple rejoined their guests for an al fresco dinner. Arranged at long tables adorned with vibrant floral centerpieces by Earl Grey Floral, the meal felt like an elevated family dinner: warm, joyful, and completely relaxed.

I had so much fun photographing my first wedding at the Southwest School of Art, and I’m already dreaming of the next one! With its historic architecture, colorful art, and lush gardens, it’s the perfect backdrop for a wedding day. Do Emmy and Alec’s intentionally laid-back, family-centered vibes resonate with you? Whether you’re planning a wedding in San Antonio or Austin, I’d love to connect. Let’s chat about my photography packages and creative process!
