Mackenzie and Hunter had a stylish winter wedding at La Colombe d’Or and Station 3 in Houston. Their inspiration was old-school New York City, where they lived together post-grad. With Alyssa Meeks Events, they planned a day encompassing two historic venues with vintage-inspired touches and plenty of outfit changes. It was sexy, moody, and truly them! I’m so glad I could be their wedding photographer.
Mackenzie and Hunter reserved the recently renovated garden bungalow suites at La Colombe d’Or for themselves and their guests. I loved shooting the couple’s getting-ready photos and portraits there! The hotel is a former mansion house built in 1923 with unmatched old-world style. The renovated rooms still have plenty of character, with contemporary flair from pops of bright color. The couple’s first look was in the Spanish Colonial-style courtyard, where we began their portrait session. Then, we went inside the main building for a few shots on the staircase and in the moody cocktail bar.
The couple held their ceremony and reception at Station 3, a former fire station in the heart of Houston. With original brick walls and hardwood floors, it matched their effortless sense of style perfectly. They exchanged vows in a traditional Jewish ceremony, complete with breaking the glass! Then, it was time to celebrate with their loved ones. Everyone gathered in the courtyard for cocktail hour, where they mingled underneath bistro lights and listened to a jazz trio. Afterward, the celebration moved inside for a candlelit dinner catered by Café Natalie and plenty of dancing.
Mackenzie and Hunter wanted their wedding to have vintage-inspired touches to match the historic venue. On the tablescapes, antique table lamps gave an old-world feel to the elegant, black-and-white design. The couple’s heart-shaped, Lambeth-style cake also recollected wedding celebrations of the past. In addition, the couple put their spin on the resurging champagne tower tradition with espresso martini glasses instead of bubbly!
Mackenzie also brought the vintage theme into her attire. She’s a fashionista who took her bridal looks seriously and seized any opportunity for an outfit change! Each look was more stylish than the last. She began the day in a timeless, long-sleeve crepe gown with a plunging v-neckline and open-back cutout. Then, she slipped into a curve-hugging, floor-length dress covered in rhinestones and 3-D flower petal appliqués for dinner. Her final look of the day was a 1920s-inspired fringed mini dress, perfect for hitting the dance floor!
I had a blast capturing Mackenzie and Hunter’s Houston wedding! I especially enjoyed shooting at La Colombe d’Or and can’t wait for another opportunity to explore the locations there. If you and your partner are planning an East Texas wedding and looking for a photographer, let’s connect! I would love to share more information about my offerings and process and hear your love story.
